DiGas files patent for Locomotive Diesel Engine Control Method and System
DiGas has filed a patent for “Locomotive Diesel Engine Control Method and System”.
This application is part of NYSMART project which has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 784620.
The invention in question applies to methods for controlling the power and rotational speed of diesel engine. More specifically, controlling the power and rotational speed of a diesel engine used in rail traction powered by a three-component fuel mixture, consisting of both gaseous and liquid fuels and air.
This method changes the locomotive diesel engine power by simultaneously changing the amount of gas and liquid fuels supplied to the cylinders. The amount of air supplied is determined by the amount of supplied fuels in such a way as to ensure that the excess air coefficient is maintained at a specified range. It also covers a locomotive diesel engine comprising separate liquid and gas fuel injection and air supply systems, to the cylinders. As well as a power control system containing a throttle valve installed in the intake manifold.
